Power failure disrupts trains to Schiphol Airport

A power failure disrupted train services between Amsterdam and Hoofddorp, including trains to Schiphol Airport in the Netherlands.

The disruption left the airport without train service and made it crowded.

ProRail, which manages the rail network, said the fault was in a high-voltage cabinet near Amsterdam Riekerpolder.

It replaced a defective part and said the power problem was fixed.

The cause of the defect is still being investigated.

Trains were being brought back into service, with normal schedules expected around 17:00, but delays could continue for some time.
