Retired Mexican sailor accused of living beyond his reported income

Miguel Ángel “N,” known as “Capitán Sol,” is a retired Mexican Navy sailor accused of taking part in a money-laundering network linked to fuel-tax fraud.

Prosecutors say the network operated within the Navy and was led by brothers Manuel and Fernando Farías Laguna.

Their investigation tracked his spending from 2012 to 2025 and found 12 properties, 11 bank accounts and at least 30 international trips.

It also says he spent more than 6 million pesos on credit cards and had no other lawful income after retiring in 2018.

Prosecutors say his spending exceeded 60 million pesos and was not consistent with his reported income.

He was arrested on October 2, along with 12 other people named in arrest warrants issued in August 2025.

At his initial hearing, prosecutors presented their investigation; the source does not say what happens next.
