Women-led team prepares to release 13 Darwin’s rheas in Chilean Patagonia
A team of women rangers is preparing 13 Darwin’s rheas to live in the wild in Chilean Patagonia.
The birds spend about two months getting used to their surroundings before release.
Pumas, strong winds and sudden temperature changes can make survival difficult.
Rheas also spread seeds, helping the steppe recover.
