Trade Republic plans a fee-free German retirement account with 51 ETFs

Trade Republic plans to offer a German retirement account with no fees for 51 selected ETFs.

The Berlin-based company says customers will pay no account fees, savings-plan execution fees or ongoing product costs for those funds.

Monthly savings plans are set to trade through Xetra’s daily closing auction, avoiding the usual gap between buying and selling prices.

The account is part of a planned state-supported pension system that is due to replace Germany’s Riester pension on 1 January 2027.

Savers are expected to choose investments such as diversified ETFs, funds or European government bonds, while individual shares, crypto assets and leveraged products are excluded.

Rivals Scalable Capital and Smartbroker have also announced free-account offers, while Deka charges 0.1% a year for its standard model.

How long Trade Republic’s zero-fee offer will last is unclear, because it has not given a binding guarantee for the fund selection.
