EU investigates XXXLutz’s planned takeover of Porta
The European Commission is investigating XXXLutz’s planned takeover of Porta, a German furniture retailer.
It says the deal could weaken competition in Germany, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, where the two companies compete in many of the same areas.
The Commission is concerned that customers could face higher prices and less choice if that competition disappears.
It is also examining whether furniture makers in Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Poland could become more dependent on XXXLutz as a buyer.
The Commission has not decided to block the deal, and its investigation does not mean that the takeover will be prohibited.
It has until February 25, 2027, to make a decision.
