Djokovic remains in contention for ATP Finals after Shanghai loss

Novak Djokovic lost 6-4, 6-3 to Hubert Hurkacz in his opening match at the Shanghai Masters in China.

The loss came three days after Djokovic won the China Open, his 102nd career title.

He is aiming to play at the ATP Finals in Turin, Italy, after qualifying for the past two editions but choosing not to compete.

Djokovic is ninth in the race for the eight-player event, while Jannik Sinner, who is second, has ended his season and will not play.

That frees up a place, but Alex de Minaur is 10th and remains in contention.

Djokovic’s next major tournament is the Paris Masters, where he has won seven times.

The event runs from 2 to 8 November, and the ATP Finals follow from 15 to 22 November.
