Djokovic loses to Hurkacz in Shanghai three days after Beijing title
Novak Djokovic lost to Hubert Hurkacz 6-4, 6-3 in the second round of the Shanghai Masters in China.
The defeat came three days after Djokovic won the China Open in Beijing, where Alex de Minaur retired injured during the final.
It was Hurkacz’s first win against Djokovic in nine meetings.
Djokovic said he felt tired and struggled to adjust to Shanghai’s faster court.
The loss ended his run in Shanghai and cost him ranking points, though his exact place in the rankings may change as other players compete.
He is ninth in the race for the eight places at the ATP Finals in Turin, with Jannik Sinner’s season over.
Djokovic now needs a strong showing at the Paris Masters in November to improve his chances of qualifying.
