Zverev praises Halys’s serve after Shanghai Open win

Alexander Zverev beat Quentin Halys 6-4, 6-7 (8), 6-3 in the third round of the Shanghai Open.

The German saved a difficult match after missing two match points in the second-set tiebreak.

It was the fourth time the players had met this year, and Zverev has won all four matches.

He praised Halys’s serve, saying the Frenchman can vary his ball toss and hit different spots, making it hard to read.

Zverev said Halys’s serve and first shot after it are among the best in the world on hard courts.

ATP statistics rank Jannik Sinner first on an overall serving measure for the past 52 weeks, while Halys is 24th.

Halys ranks fourth for first-serve points won and seventh for average aces per match.

Zverev said he hopes Halys will become a seeded player in future, so they are less likely to meet early in tournaments.
