Man jailed for assaulting taxi driver on day he left prison
The man attacked a taxi driver while the car was moving, breaking the driver’s nose and causing other serious injuries.
He had been released from prison earlier that day after receiving a suspended sentence in another case.
The appeals court said attacks on drivers can cause crashes and put many people at risk.
It upheld his 22-month prison sentence.
A 52-year-old man was sentenced to one year and 10 months in prison for assaulting a taxi driver on the day he was released from prison.
The Gwangju High Court’s Jeonju branch upheld the original sentence on appeal, Yonhap reported on October 10.
The assault took place in a moving taxi in Jeonju on March 10.
The 74-year-old driver suffered serious injuries, including a broken nose.
The court said the assault could have caused a traffic accident and that the man had not tried to repair the harm to the victim.
