Indonesia Tests Brazilian Firefighting Liquid in South Sumatra and Kalimantan

Indonesia is battling forest and land fires in several regions, including South Sumatra and Kalimantan.

The government has tested a Brazilian-made liquid that can be sprayed on fires, with the aim of extinguishing them.

A separate trial in South Sumatra used a powder dissolved in water and sprayed onto flames to help stop fires spreading.

Officials say crews will keep fighting fires from helicopters and on the ground.

The military, police, local governments and relevant ministries have been directed to continue the work.

The government is also increasing public education and reviewing regulations and fire-prevention efforts.

Coordinating Minister Dudung Abdurachman said he plans to visit affected areas, including South Sumatra, to check progress.
