Veneto mayors warn of shrinking funds as regional leader rejects tax increase

Mayors in Veneto say they have less money to provide local services as costs rise and some funding declines.

Regional President Alberto Stefani says he will not restore a regional income-tax surcharge this year.

He wants the region to make better use of its existing budget first.

The mayors warn that higher bills and other expenses could leave less money for services such as road repairs.
