Proposed F1 calendar change could strengthen Antonelli’s title position

Proposed F1 calendar change could strengthen Antonelli’s title position

Formula 1 is preparing a possible change to the end of its 2026 season because of security concerns in the Middle East.

The plan would remove the Qatar and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix and hold a race at Imola in Italy on 6 December.

The change has not been officially confirmed.

Antonelli, a Mercedes driver, leads the championship with 340 points, 102 ahead of team-mate George Russell.

Under the original schedule, six races remained after Singapore and a maximum of 150 points were available.

Replacing the two Middle Eastern races with one Imola event would leave five races and 125 points available.

That would improve Antonelli’s chances, but Russell could still catch him if results go his way.

A win for Antonelli in Austin would secure the title if the shortened schedule is adopted.
