Jubilee plans Coast candidates, testing opposition unity in Mombasa

Jubilee plans Coast candidates, testing opposition unity in Mombasa

Jubilee Party leader Fred Matiang’i says his party plans to field candidates for every elective position across Kenya’s Coast region in the 2027 election.

In Mombasa, Nyali MP Mohamed Ali is considering a run for governor on a Wiper ticket, while former Kisauni MP Ali Mbogo is seeking the Jubilee nomination.

The two could compete for the chance to challenge current Governor Abdulswamad Nassir of ODM.

Democracy for the Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua has said he supports Ali, whether Ali runs with DCP or Wiper.

The contest comes as opposition parties discuss working together against President William Ruto in 2027, while also pursuing local seats.

Jubilee is also talking with Coast-based parties, including Kadu Asili, about possible cooperation and how they might share or support candidates.

The party says it will map out those arrangements before January, while negotiations over an opposition presidential candidate remain open.
