US jet disables cargo ship after it allegedly tried to breach Iran blockade
The US military said it disabled a commercial cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman on Saturday, October 10.
It said the Panama-flagged vessel, named M/V Ocean Molica and also known as Arika Sun, had left an Iranian port and tried to cross a naval blockade of Iran.
According to the US military, the crew ignored warnings, and a US fighter jet hit the ship’s stern with precision weapons.
The strike disabled the ship’s propulsion system, but no crew members were injured.
The ship’s operator had not responded.
The US military urged sailors in the Gulf of Oman and waters leading to the Strait of Hormuz to follow blockade warnings and monitor maritime safety broadcasts.
Ship traffic through the strait has fallen to its lowest level in more than two months, raising concerns about disruption and contributing to higher crude oil prices.
