Raindance to launch U.K. festival and market for vertical films

Raindance is launching a festival and financing market for vertical films and series in London.

The one-day event is scheduled for Dec.

4 at Soho’s Karma Sanctum Hotel, with two competition categories: Vertical Short Film and Vertical Series.

Submissions are open to U.K. and international filmmakers until November, and the work will be shown in a 9:16 format.

The event will also include panels, workshops and a mini-market that will connect pre-vetted producers with financiers, platforms, commissioners and brands.

The festival aims to help filmmakers reach people who can fund their work, as Raindance says U.K. creators have few such routes for vertical projects.

The format uses a tall screen and is associated with short-form films and series.

The festival is set to take place on Dec.

4, with awards judged by filmmakers who work in the format.
