Indonesia plans year-end borrowing to cover a projected budget deficit

Indonesia’s Finance Ministry expects the country’s 2026 budget deficit to reach 2.85% of gross domestic product by year-end.

A budget deficit means the government expects to spend more than it collects.

To cover its remaining financing needs, the government plans 12 regular bond auctions in the fourth quarter: six government bond sales and six Islamic bond sales.

It also plans to issue retail savings bonds and savings sukuk.

The government may sell foreign-currency bonds, depending on global market conditions.

It says it could also draw US$1.8 billion in program loans from bilateral and multilateral lenders during the quarter.

By the end of September, it had raised Rp494.3 trillion in new debt, equal to 59.4% of its annual target.
