Gold exporters in Indonesia fall from about 15 to five after export duty

Gold exporters in Indonesia fall from about 15 to five after export duty

Indonesia recorded five companies exporting gold through September 2026, compared with about 15 in the same period of 2025.

Customs officials say some companies may be holding back exports since the government introduced a duty on gold exports.

The five companies exported 3.74 tonnes of gold, generating about 385.2 billion rupiah in duties.

That is less gold than the 19.66 tonnes exported during all of 2025.

Finance Minister Suahasil Nazara also said customs officers had made 94 seizures linked to gold smuggling out of Indonesia, recovering 353 kilograms.

The gold seized came in forms including powder, bars and cylinders.

Customs chief Djaka Budi Utama expects the number of exporters to rise again, saying companies may not be able to hold their gold indefinitely.
