Indonesia warns of scams ahead of mandatory halal rules

Indonesia’s Halal Product Assurance Agency, known as BPJPH, is warning businesses and the public about scams linked to upcoming mandatory halal rules.

The rules are due to take effect on 18 October 2026, and the agency says they will not be delayed.

Scammers may pose as agency officials and demand money for fines, penalties or help completing halal certification.

BPJPH says the government has no policy of conducting sweeps or similar actions against businesses in the field.

The rules are part of Indonesia’s halal product assurance law, which aims to protect the public and provide certainty for businesses.

The government is preparing special provisions for certain cases, especially micro and small businesses and imported products, including raw materials and goods for use.

Official information is available at bpjph.halal.go.id.
