Young tapir Amendoim is now on view at São Paulo's Simba Safari
A young tapir named Amendoim was born in early September at Simba Safari in São Paulo, Brazil.
Visitors can now see him in Espaço Brasil, an area for native Brazilian animals, where he spends most of his time with his mother, Rosa.
His father is named Paçoca, which inspired the baby’s name.
Amendoim’s dark coat has pale stripes and spots, a pattern common in newborn tapirs that helps them hide in the wild.
The markings fade as tapirs grow, and their coats become more uniform in color.
Simba Safari is part of the same complex as the São Paulo Zoo, but visitors need separate tickets and use a different entrance.
The park also recently welcomed several other young animals and is home to more than 300 animals from 40 species.
