Ukraine offers to halt refinery strikes if Russia stops attacks on its energy grid
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine would stop striking Russian oil refineries if Russia stopped attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
He said any pause must be mutual and backed by guarantees.
The offer came after U.S. President Donald Trump called for Ukraine to have a new leader and blamed Zelenskyy for high diesel prices in the United States.
Ukraine’s foreign minister said Ukrainians have the right to decide who leads their country.
Trump had also agreed with Russian President Vladimir Putin to buy diesel from Russia, a move Ukrainian and European officials said could help fund Russia’s war effort.
Separately, a Ukrainian drone attack damaged a Yandex data centre in Vladimir, east of Moscow, and halted its operations.
The outage disrupted Yandex services in Russia and several nearby countries, while the two countries’ armies remain largely deadlocked on the front line.
