Apple unveils $299 HomeView hub, with some AI features needing an iPhone or iPad
Apple has announced HomeView, a screen and speaker for the home that can also control connected devices such as cameras, thermostats and locks.
The 7-inch device can sit on a table or be mounted on a wall, and starts at $299 in the United States.
It is designed for households of up to six people, with face recognition used to show information for the person using it.
HomeView can display details from Messages, Photos, Calendar and Reminders, make FaceTime calls, play music and act as a digital photo frame.
Some personal Siri AI features need a compatible iPhone or iPad paired with the hub; general questions and conversation with Siri remain available without Apple Intelligence support on that device.
Some camera recording summaries and searches also require a compatible Apple device and an eligible iCloud+ subscription.
HomeView ships on November 13, and wall buyers need to purchase a separate mount, starting at $59.95.
