Yemen envoy says Houthis expanded attacks on Saudi Arabia
Yemen’s UN ambassador accused Houthi forces of widening attacks on Saudi Arabia.
He said airports and civilian and economic sites were targeted.
He asked the Security Council to press for accountability and curb weapons and funding reaching the Houthis.
The appeal matters because Yemen’s envoy also said protecting Red Sea shipping is a shared responsibility.
Yemen’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Saadi, said the Houthis had expanded attacks on Saudi Arabia.
Al-Saadi said the attacks targeted airports, facilities, and civilian and economic sites; the article did not provide specific dates or details of individual attacks.
He made the remarks in a statement to the UN Security Council during an open session on Yemen.
Al-Saadi urged the Council to hold the Houthis responsible for the escalation and to implement its resolutions, including Resolution 2216.
He called for measures to limit funding and smuggling networks and stop the flow of weapons, technology, expertise, and dual-use military components to the Houthis.
Al-Saadi also praised Saudi support for Yemen, including a new budget-support tranche provided at the beginning of the month.
