Arthur Gea beats Ben Shelton in the Shanghai Masters second round
Arthur Gea beat Ben Shelton 7-6, 7-6 in the Shanghai Masters’ second round in Shanghai.
Shelton, an American ranked fourth in the world and a US Open finalist, was one of the tournament’s leading players.
Both sets were close and decided by tiebreaks, where Gea came out ahead.
The 21-year-old Frenchman is ranked 56th, while Shelton is 23.
Shelton said Gea had played much better and that he had not adjusted to the time difference before arriving.
The loss ends Shelton’s tournament, while Gea advances to face Czech player Jakub Mensik in the round of 16.
