A state police officer was wounded by gunfire on October 10 in Chipilo, a community in San Gregorio Atzompa, Puebla, Mexico.

The officer was taken to hospital and was reported to be in stable condition.

The incident began during a police patrol, when officers pursued a gray vehicle without license plates.

The vehicle escaped after getting past a municipal police unit and moving through traffic, while gunshots were heard.

Authorities have not said who fired the shots, and accounts differ on the vehicle’s model.

The state security department said the vehicle was later secured along with evidence from the scene.

State and federal agencies are working together to find those responsible and have reinforced security in the area.
