DMK finishes second in both Tamil Nadu by-elections, holding much of its vote base

The DMK came second in two by-elections in Tamil Nadu.

It got fewer votes than in the Assembly election, but turnout was also lower and many former allies did not support it.

The results suggest the DMK still has a strong base of voters.

That could matter in future elections if it contests with its allies again.
