Gloucester amateur football club wins £1m after decades of playing same numbers
Longlevens AFC, an amateur football club in Gloucester, has won £1 million in the Lotto.
The club matched five main numbers and the bonus ball in a draw held last month.
Its president, Bill Davis, 73, bought the ticket on the club’s behalf, as he has done each week for more than 30 years.
The numbers were first chosen by six club committee members when the National Lottery began, and the club kept using them.
Davis joined the club in the 1970s and has held several roles there.
He says the money will help secure the club’s long-term future, and buying its leased facilities is one option.
Club members are planning a celebration while they consider how to make the prize benefit the club over time.

This story does not have two clearly opposing sides.
This is Longlevens AFC’s win. I’ve been playing Lotto for decades as a member of the club, not as an individual, and I couldn’t be happier.
The club has been such a huge part of my life for around half a century, and I can’t think of a better use for this money than helping secure its future for generations to come.
