Türkiye part ways with coach Vincenzo Montella after four Nations League defeats
Türkiye have dismissed Vincenzo Montella as coach of its national football team.
The decision followed four straight defeats in the Nations League and the team’s exit from the World Cup group stage.
Montella, an Italian, had coached Türkiye since September 2023.
The decision came as the Turkish Football Federation faced a leadership dispute.
First Deputy Chairman Mecnun Otyakmaz and four other board members resigned after disagreements about the federation’s future.
The remaining board says it will stay in office until the next ordinary elective general assembly, and the federation has appointed replacements for vacant roles.
The federation has not announced who will coach the team next.
The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) announced on October 9 that it would part ways with national team coach Vincenzo Montella.
The decision followed Türkiye’s elimination from the World Cup and four consecutive defeats in the UEFA Nations League.
Five senior TFF officials resigned after disagreements over the federation’s future, including First Deputy Chairman Mecnun Otyakmaz.
The TFF said its board would remain in office until the next ordinary elective general assembly.
The federation also announced changes to its board and secretary-general position.
