Abascal calls for a militarised border during visit to Ceuta

Vox leader Santiago Abascal visited Ceuta, a Spanish autonomous city on the North African coast, with Jordan Bardella, leader of France’s National Rally.

Abascal called for the border to be militarised and reinforced, and demanded that migrants he described as invaders be expelled.

He accused Spain’s government, led by Pedro Sánchez, of failing to respond to events in the city.

Bardella also blamed the Spanish government’s migration policy and said French President Emmanuel Macron supported it.

Both politicians argued that migration and border security would be important issues in elections in Spain and France.

Bardella said that if his party came to power in France, it would seek to limit Schengen free movement to European Union citizens.

The two leaders said they would work together to strengthen borders if their parties formed governments.
