South Korean police officer demoted after drunken driving damaged eight vehicles

A senior police officer in South Korea has been demoted after driving drunk in Cheongju, a city in North Chungcheong Province.

On March 11, he drove into seven parked cars and one motorcycle in a neighborhood alley.

His blood alcohol level was 0.124 percent, according to the account of the incident.

In July, he received a summary order to pay a 10 million won fine.

South Korea classifies demotion as a major disciplinary penalty for public officials.

The National Police Agency decided on the demotion at a disciplinary committee meeting.

The account does not say whether the officer will face any further action.
