Darwin short-stay facility to close, leaving 120 First Nations residents to relocate

The YiSSA facility in Darwin is closing after the Northern Territory government did not renew its lease.

The government declined a federal offer of $6.5 million to buy the buildings and keep the service running.

The 120 residents who remain will be moved to Batchelor, about 100km away.

Many people use the facility while getting medical care or support in Darwin, so the move may take them farther from services and work.
