Neanderthal Site Reveals Extensive Evidence of Woodworking

Archaeologists found traces of hundreds of wooden objects at a Neanderthal site in Barcelona.

Some imprints show tools, including a club, spears and possible digging sticks.

Limestone formed around the wood and preserved its shape after the wood decayed.

The find suggests Neanderthals used wood more widely than the surviving record usually shows, because wood rarely lasts for thousands of years.
