Turkish officials condemn Katz remarks targeting Erdoğan and Hamas negotiators
Turkish officials have condemned remarks by Israeli Defence Minister Israel Katz that targeted Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Turkey.
Communications Director Burhanettin Duran said Katz’s comments came ahead of elections in Israel and called them politically motivated.
Duran also criticised Katz for threatening people involved in ceasefire and peace talks.
Turkish officials said the remarks would not change Turkey’s support for Palestinian rights and a lasting peace.
Another Turkish official, Ömer Çelik, also accused Israel’s government of using attacks on Turkey to distract from domestic political pressure.
The dispute follows Katz’s comments about Erdoğan and Hamas, including a reported threat against Hamas political leader Khalil al-Hayya.
Turkey has said it will continue to defend Palestinian rights, but no further action was announced.
