Smart greenhouses boost specialty produce in Shanxi village
A village in Shanxi upgraded 49 greenhouses with smart ventilation and precise watering systems.
Farmers also began growing specialty tomatoes and other produce with help from a university team.
One tomato variety brings about 8,000 yuan more per greenhouse than ordinary tomatoes did before.

Forty-nine greenhouse vegetable structures in Quli village, Heshun county, Shanxi province, entered the harvest period in early October 2026.
In 2025, a village work team from Shanxi Agricultural University upgraded the greenhouses with smart ventilation, precision drip irrigation and integrated water-and-fertilizer systems.
The village has expanded into specialty produce, including a locally bred strawberry tomato variety and multicolored cherry tomatoes.
The strawberry tomato variety can yield up to 7 jin per plant, and each fruit can weigh more than 3 liang or even 4 liang, according to a university work-team member.
The strawberry tomato sells for 1.5 yuan per jin, and the article says returns per greenhouse are about 8,000 yuan higher than before.
Specialty tomatoes and cherry tomatoes from the village are supplied directly to supermarkets in Heshun county.
