Eliud Kipchoge wins Melbourne Marathon in course-record time
Eliud Kipchoge won the Melbourne Marathon in Australia in 2 hours, 9 minutes and 10 seconds.
The 41-year-old Kenyan set a course record, beating the previous mark by two seconds.
It was his first marathon win since the Berlin Marathon in 2023 and the 17th of his career.
A two-time Olympic champion, Kipchoge pulled away from the other leading runners in the second half and finished inside the Melbourne Cricket Ground, waving to the crowd.
The race was the third stop on his world tour, which aims to take him to all seven continents over two years.
The tour also raises money for his foundation, which focuses on education, environmental sustainability and health.
Kipchoge said he believes he can still compete with younger runners, and plans to continue the tour.

The 41-year-old Kenyan broke away in the final 10 kilometres and finished inside the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported his time as 2:09.08, while other reports gave it as 2:09:10.
