UK recalls Ukrainian eggs after salmonella tests identify a strain linked to 36 cases
UK food safety officials have recalled eggs imported from Ukrainian producer Yasensvit Ltd after tests found Salmonella Enteritidis.
The affected eggs carry the code 3UA1012066, and the strain found in them is linked to 36 cases in England in 2026.
Genetic tests found it differs from the strains linked to a wider outbreak that has infected at least 650 people in Britain, hospitalised 99 and killed two.
Investigators have not established that the recalled eggs caused that wider outbreak.
The eggs were mainly supplied to restaurants and other catering businesses, and none were sold in major supermarkets.
Businesses must stop using or selling affected eggs and dispose of remaining stock; consumers should check the code stamped on each egg and throw away any that match.
