2.3-metre crocodile moved from Acapulco’s Zona Diamante to a nearby stream

A 2.3-metre crocodile was found in Zona Diamante, a tourist area of Acapulco, in Mexico’s Guerrero state.

The sighting was reported on social media during heavy rain and flooding.

Municipal firefighters and Civil Protection staff kept the animal contained until federal environmental inspectors arrived.

The crocodile was then moved to Arroyo Colacho, a waterway connected to the La Sabana River and Laguna Negra de Puerto Marqués.

Authorities did not identify its species or provide details about its age, sex or health.

Heavy rain can change the routes of animals that live near waterways and wetlands, increasing the chance of encounters with people.

Officials said they would continue working with local authorities to respond to reports of wildlife sightings.
