Groups Urge Indonesia’s PKB to Seek Inquiry Into Gibran’s Diploma
A civil society alliance asked Indonesia’s PKB lawmakers to investigate Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka’s educational credentials.
The alliance formed after a Constitutional Court ruling said it found no convincing evidence that Gibran had obtained an equivalent high school qualification while studying abroad and used it to register as a vice-presidential candidate in 2024.
The court rejected a request to disqualify Gibran, saying it lacked authority to annul an office won through an election.
The groups want PKB, which has 68 seats in the House of Representatives, to pursue a parliamentary inquiry or a motion expressing the House’s opinion.
An inquiry needs at least 25 lawmakers and support from two factions, while the opinion motion needs at least 25 lawmakers.
PKB says it will review the proposal before deciding what action to take.

What people are saying
The Constitutional Court has referred the next step to the House to follow up on this matter. Therefore, we are asking political parties to take action because, like it or not, this is a source of public concern
Following this meeting, we have formally received the letter. We will follow it up, discuss it, conduct a more in-depth review, assess the issues, and calculate the implications, among other things
It will take hard work. That is why we need to approach the factions and ask them to initiate this inquiry
If the plenary session approves it, the path toward impeachment becomes closer. That is the step we are waiting for our colleagues at PKB to take
