Eight arrested in Hyderabad over trafficking of minor girl

Police in Hyderabad arrested eight people, including four women, over the trafficking of a minor girl.

Police say the girl was kidnapped from Tolichowki on September 2 and taken to a brothel in Attapur.

They say she was handed over for money, confined there and repeatedly sexually exploited.

The girl escaped on October 5 and told her family, who then lodged a complaint with police.

Police arrested all eight suspects on October 9 and seized six mobile phones and an autorickshaw.

The case involves alleged kidnapping, trafficking and sexual offences, including offences covered by India’s child protection law.

Police are still investigating the suspects’ individual roles and the money involved, while the accused have been produced before a court for further proceedings.

What people are saying

The women initially attempted to gain the girl’s trust by promising her food and accommodation. They subsequently handed her over to Sabiya Begum, who operated a brothel near pillar number 200 in Attapur, in exchange for ₹30,000,
