Fire on IndiGo flight prompts diversion to Hyderabad

A portable charger caught fire in an overhead luggage compartment on an IndiGo flight in India on Sunday, October 11.

The plane was travelling from New Delhi to Chennai with passengers and crew on board.

Cabin crew used fire extinguishers to control the flames, and passengers also helped put them out.

The pilots diverted the Airbus A321 to Hyderabad as a safety measure, and it landed safely.

Everyone on board was reported to be well.

IndiGo arranged another plane to take the passengers to Chennai and provided assistance while they waited.

The incident shows how a fire involving a personal electronic device can disrupt a flight and lead to an emergency diversion.
