Angus Taylor says he would welcome Josh Frydenberg back to politics
Angus Taylor, Australia’s Opposition Leader, says he would welcome former Liberal treasurer Josh Frydenberg back to politics if he chose to run for office.
Frydenberg lost his seat four years ago and has recently shared ideas for Australia in excerpts from his upcoming memoir.
He has called on the Liberal Party to reclaim the political centre and suggested changes on energy, artificial intelligence and housing.
Taylor says the Coalition will not adopt Frydenberg’s suggestion to raise the goods and services tax, or GST.
The Coalition proposes cutting temporary migration by 650,000 places over four years while adding 100,000 skilled migrants, who it expects to earn more and pay more tax.
Business, aged care, education and construction groups have raised concerns, while Taylor says the plan would keep government revenue neutral and includes a transition for aged-care workers.
The plan has not been officially costed by the Parliamentary Budget Office, and the Coalition says it will release more details closer to the next federal election.

Frydenberg proposed using a portion of state GST revenue according to how many homes were built.
But we've all got to mobilise, and I welcome Josh playing whatever role he's able to play.
We will not be raising the GST in the middle of a cost-of-living crisis. That we won't do.
If you cut numbers and raise standards, you can maintain budget neutrality.
