China says Pacific island ties are not about geopolitical competition

China’s foreign minister met politicians from Pacific island countries in Beijing.

He said China’s cooperation with them is not aimed at other countries and should not face outside interference.

Some countries in the region have viewed China’s growing security ties with concern.

Wang also urged the visitors to support the “one China” principle, which says Taiwan is part of China.
