Street Fighter movie uses 2D animation for flashbacks

The new Street Fighter movie is mostly live-action, but its flashbacks use 2D animation.

These scenes show Ken and Ryu’s past and their training with Master Gouken.

Director Kitao Sakurai said animation suited the franchise’s anime roots and avoided using younger actors or digitally aging the cast.

The approach also connects the film to the series’ history and 1990s style.
