Chennai sculptor uses wire and nuts and bolts to create two sculptures
Chennai sculptor G. Sooriyamoorthy is preparing two works for the Aurae Elemental art show.
One is a human face formed from interwoven metal wires, and the other is a warrior assembled from nuts and bolts.
The wire portrait took three months to make, with Sooriyamoorthy shaping the wires by hand and using little machinery.
For the warrior, he made a clay model and a plaster mold before welding the nuts and bolts together.
He says the plaster helps absorb heat during welding, while fibre could pose a fire risk.
The two works reflect his interest in materials that take time and effort to shape; he has experimented with unconventional materials and techniques for 26 years.
The show will present these experiments, though no date or venue is given.
