Arizona State assistant coach absent from home opener after player’s collapse

Arizona State hockey player Matthew Mayich collapsed during an outdoor workout in August and suffered heat stroke.

His family’s lawyer says he is unlikely to recover.

Assistant coach Alex Hicks, who was present at the workout, missed the team’s home opener, but the university has not explained why.

The university has commissioned an independent review of the incident, while police are also investigating.
