South Korea’s LH to add compact sprinklers to older public rental homes
South Korea’s state housing operator, LH, plans to install compact sprinklers in older national public rental homes.
The sprinklers use the homes’ existing water pipes to supply water for putting out a fire.
LH developed the system last year and has already installed it in older permanent rental homes, with about 14,000 homes now equipped.
Older rental homes are not legally required to have sprinklers.
LH says the expansion is intended to reduce the risk of deaths in fires in older apartments.
The operator plans to seek more government funding to ease the cost and extend the system to more homes.
