SBB and Deutsche Bahn plan fewer stops on Stuttgart–Zurich route
SBB and Deutsche Bahn plan fewer stops on the German section of the Stuttgart–Zurich route from December.
The change will also add up to 11 minutes to some journeys between Schaffhausen and Stuttgart.
The operators say the changes are intended to make the cross-border service more reliable after frequent delays and cancellations affected passengers, including commuters travelling between Schaffhausen and Zurich.
Since December 2025, every second train from Stuttgart has ended at Singen, where passengers can continue to Zurich on a scheduled train; an SBB replacement train runs from Schaffhausen when German trains are badly delayed.
The measures have raised average on-time arrivals in Zurich by about 20 percentage points, to more than 80 per cent.
In spring 2027, the operators will decide whether to keep the measures or return to hourly trains running all the way between Stuttgart and Zurich.
SBB and Deutsche Bahn plan to reduce the number of stops on the German section of the Stuttgart–Zurich route from the December timetable change.
The journey time between Schaffhausen and Stuttgart will be extended by up to 11 minutes.
The companies say the changes are intended to improve punctuality and stabilise the route.
Since December 2025, every second train from Stuttgart has run only as far as Singen, with a scheduled connection onward to Zurich.
SBB says measures introduced so far have raised average on-time arrivals in Zurich by about 20 percentage points, to more than 80 percent.
