Three killed in Kochi crash; two more people arrested

Three people in their early 20s were killed when a Mini Cooper hit their scooter near Cochin International Airport in Nedumbassery, near Kochi, in the early hours of October 11.

Police say the 19-year-old driver, Suhail Sajeev, was drunk and driving at 120 km/h.

They found that he and his friends had visited at least three bars in Kochi before heading to the airport to pick up a friend.

Two passengers who left the scene have now been arrested and charged with abetting; two others, including Suhail, had been arrested earlier.

Suhail is charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder and has been remanded to a Borstal school.

The family of one victim wants murder charges brought against him.

Kerala’s Excise Department is investigating three bars over claims they served alcohol to Suhail and a friend, both below the age of 23; police may seek court permission to question those arrested.
