Australian hiker Jordan Yap found dead after going missing in Peru
Jordan Yap, a 30-year-old from Melbourne, has been found dead in Peru, his family says.
He went missing during a solo trek in the remote Huayhuash mountain range, where he planned to hike for 10 days.
The route is high-altitude and rugged, and is considered one of Peru’s most challenging mountain trails.
Yap was regarded by his family and friends as an experienced hiker.
They became concerned after he missed his expected return, failed to check in and missed a flight.
Peruvian media reported that his body was found near the remote village of Machaycancha.
Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade says it is providing consular assistance to his family.
