Microsoft adds Office document creation to Copilot app and retires Outlook themes

Microsoft is adding a feature that lets users ask the Copilot app to create an Office document, such as a Word file.

Users can edit the document in the relevant Office app while continuing their Copilot conversation, and can share it so others can use Copilot to make changes.

The feature is rolling out to Frontier customers using Chat and Cowork, and relies on OneDrive.

At the same time, Microsoft is retiring Themes by Copilot in Outlook, which could create changing, AI-generated designs for the email app.

Users who already have one of these themes can keep it until they switch to another, but cannot select it again afterward.

Microsoft has not said why it is ending the theme feature, which it announced less than two years ago.

The changes show that Copilot features can be introduced and later removed, so the new document tool’s future will depend on whether Microsoft continues to support it.
