Thousands join broad protest in Bolzano over rights and social justice
A broad coalition of more than 60 organizations marched through Bolzano under the name “Buntes Südtirolo.”
The groups brought together people from Italian-, German- and Ladin-speaking communities.
They called for rights and social justice, opposing migrant detention centers and war while also raising concerns about housing, gender violence and public services.
Organizers said 2,500 people took part, while police counted 1,500.
The march reflected concern that housing costs and tourism are making it harder for local residents to live in the city.
Speakers urged local institutions to listen to the demands raised by the demonstrators.

This story does not have two clearly opposing sides.
We want to show this variety of fundamental issues that we must bring into the square without looking for scapegoats in migration
We bring these issues into the streets because there is a dramatic urgency, from systemic gender-based violence to migrant detention centres and rearmament passed off as a necessity
Institutions should listen and do some of the things this square is asking for instead of chasing, hoping for some electoral benefit, the slogans of a right that has shown itself to be against the values of the Constitution
All united today under the banner of “no to violence”, for social justice that involves everyone, from fundamental rights and freedoms to the right to housing, against migrant detention centres and against wars, because it is all part of the same logic of social justice and a better world
